Quantum Vibe

A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

QV on a short break [ Jul 15, 2026 ]

QUANTUM VIVE is taking a break for a few weeks, as we prepare for Part 2 of the Novo Palermo story, and also for a Kickstarter campaign for Part 1, which will start in September.

In the meantime, Not-Safe.Space will continue, as a murder mystery begins and the relationship between Eithne and Diana develops in unexpected directions.

Not-Safe.Space is a NSFW strip but more than half the pages are SFW so I've set those to *not* require a Patreon membership. Readers should be able to follow the story without seeing the NSFW pages. If I've done this right.

Transcript For Strip 1287

Panel 1
Diana, in her chambers, at the network terminal.
Diana (thought): All right, first let's see what these gomers have to say about themselves.
Text box: Keywords: Bubbleopolis history
Panel 2
Looking past Diana at the terminal screen, we see an image of the city as it appeared previously on the cruiser's viewscreen.
Text on screen: Bubbleopolis a.k.a. Oz a.k.a. Novo Paolo a.k.a. Kūchū Rōkaku a.k.a. France was established in the 890th year of the Space Age.
Diana: Wait … what year do they call the current one?
Panel 3
Angle so we see Diana from the side. The screen is barely visible from the side.
Computer voice: The current date is 1068.742 S.A.
Diana: Oh! A voice interface. Continue with history.
Computer voice: Founders were a consortium of enterprises led by Hari Copperton, Kofi Akosah, Kirsten Bezos, Edmund Ansari, Enrique Colón, and Nicole Oresme.
Caption: * Oct. 1, 3025
Panel 4
Looking past Diana again at the screen. Now we see just one bubble with some structures floating inside.
Computer voice: Within the first 20 years the population had grown to 500,000 persons, and the city had become a major intergalactic trading center, as its founders had hoped.
Computer voice: As the population continued growing, the city, originally named Galactica, added more and more bubbles and acquired the sobriquet 'Bubbleopolis' as well as other popular names.
Panel 5
Medium c/u of Diana looking skeptical.
Computer voice: The city's success is generally attributed to a combination of its advantageous location, its ability to attract productive talent, and its policies of economic as well as social laissez-faire, along with an efficient adjudication system and a culture that abhors aggressive violence and extols private property rights.
Diana: Hmp. I'll bet.

Panel 6
Another angle on Diana, raising an eyebrow.
Computer voice: The city's laws are based on a charter document promulgated by the founders and all residents and long-term visitors are asked to sign an affirmation of agreement with these laws.
Diana: Aha. I knew there was a catch to this game.
