A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Back to Alyss' balcony with Hugo, Alyss and Murphy
Alyss: And that was that?
Murphy: Pretty much. She did say if she accomplished her mission ahead of schedule she'd come back immediately rather than stick around.
Alyss: She'll get lonely!
Panel 2
Close 2-shot of Alyss and Murphy on the left, a memory-bubble area on the right containing a happy Eithne along with two somewhat cat-like humanoids, a beautiful young female and beautiful male.
Murphy: Not so much. She said the Gamers are attending to her … creature comforts.
Murphy: She also wants to look for the other versions of Hugo and myself who went before us, but were never found.
Panel 3
Alyss smiles weakly, both resigned and hopeful.
Alyss: That's it, then. I guess I'll see her again after … 31.688 standard years.
Hugo: We've acquired permission to make occasional visits. Perhaps you can join us on one of them.
Alyss: I'd think I'd like that, at some point.
Panel 4
Start final truck outward. We've pulled back again to show the entire balcony.
Alyss: You never explained why your and Eithne's sexy fun-time was important to the story.
Murphy: And Hugo's inappropriate joke, as well.
Murphy: We think it was those gamer gods' attempts to contact us, before they reached Eithne.
Panel 5
Pull back farther to show the entire building, with our friends barely visible on the balcony.
Hugo: When they try to 'reach' us all they can do is stimulate our libidos.
Hugo: Perhaps because that's how they channel their influence through biological sapients.
Alyss: I hope Eithne understands that angle.
Panel 6
Pull farther back to show Alyss' home as one among several buildings in Oz. Vehicles and bubbs whizzing about.
Hugo: I daresay Eithne will find ways of using that to influence the gamers.
Hugo: She is without a doubt, your grand-daughter.
Murphy: What's that old Terran expression? 'That seed did not fall far from the tree.'
Alyss: Oh, shut up, you guys.
