Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1
Juan and Radoj.
Radoj: But I suppose you didn't come by to discuss my problems.
Juan: I want to talk about the last case you worked on. I hope that's not a problem.
Radoj: Well, that depends. We've been friends for a long time, Juan.
Panel 2
Juan and Radoj. Radoj is looking a bit nervous now.
Juan: You were my mentor for years. And we've had each others' backs for decades after that.
Radoj: That's right. But I need your solemn word that you will keep your visit here and everything I said confidential.
Juan: All off the record, of course!
Panel 3
Now Radoj is looking darkly serious.
Radoj: OK, first, just for the sake of my conscience … drop this case. I don't know how much you're being paid, but it's not worth it.
Radoj: The folks you'll be running up against are powerful, and clever, and they play for keeps.
Panel 4
Juan smiles wryly.
Juan: If you don't know how much I'm being paid, how do you know whether the risk is worth it?
Radoj: They managed to kill a 170-kilogram combat-gynoid AND make her back-up disappear. Do your own risk-reward assessment.
