Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Alyss, Sergio, and the Martello Siblings are gathered around Carlos, the aforementioned minion, who is referencing images on a holoscreen behind him. The images consist of a diagram of the original hyper-cubexahedron in its opened configuration, plus a bunch of lines and arrows and symbols and text.
Carlos: We were in fact working in three extra spatial dimensions, trying to create a new kind of portal system.
Sergio: To get around the city's Oresme shields?
Panel 2
Closer focus on Carlos, who is looking defensive but still cowed.
Carlos: Well, no … that is, sure, it might be used that way.
Carlos: But, well, most of us were just in it for the experimentation, to see if Royce's theory could be made to work.
Carlos: I'm not interested in politics.
Panel 3
Looking past Carlos at Alyss & co.; Alyss and Sergio look annoyed, the Siblings look intrigued.
Carlos: Um … anyway, all we've accomplished so far is to create thousands of little 'pocket universes' within the Portal device.
Carlos: Ranging in size from a few meters to almost a kilometer across, they can only be accessed, ironically enough, via a Murphy-engine breach.
Carlos: Not exactly what we expected, as you might guess.
Panel 4
Medium close-up on Alyss and Sergio staring at each other in alarm.
Carlos: Until we can figure out how to use these pockets as portals, I'm afraid … ah … some of them are being used for other purposes.
Carlos: I-I think DeCastries … um … is keeping your friend Diana Martelli in one of them. I swear I don't know which.
