Dark plans fall like thunderbolts.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Not-Safe dot Kickstarter [ May 6, 2024 ]
The big news this week is that Scott is preparing to launch a Kickstarter for his other comic, the very much NSFW Not-Safe.Space.
This over-sized (8.5 x 11-inch), 48 page book contains Chapter 1 of this naughty sci-fi spin-off, featuring Eithne Lamdagan, who happens to be Alyss Roaz' 7th-great granddaughter, in case you didn't know.
The story picks up roughly 2 years after QUANTUM VIBE: Assimulation left off, as Eithne and her K'Tagon boyfriend Ralff, wander through the Galaxy of the Gamer Godz, playing as the CUSH Queen, working to re-balance a real-life RPG that her travelling companion Hugo Galvez left in a bit of a mess.
Only instead of Eithne's CUSH turning people into techno-zombies, as the Godz originally intended, Eithne wants to make them techno-Succubi/Incubi, spreading what she calls an "Erogene" factor rendering them too busy making love, to make war. And of course, Eithne gets wrapped up in her work.
The campaign will start on May 14, and the link for the pre-launch page is here.
Panel 1
Bok is flanked by floating, menacing images of a space-pirate, on the left, and a space Marine (Astrine?), on the right.
Bok: Of course, the threats of greater concern usually walk on two legs.
Bok: Displacer technology would seem to be tailor made for both pirate raids and invasion by hostile states.
Panel 2
Schematic showing a space-craft 'bouncing' off of an Oresme Shield. A portrait of Nicole Oresme (in her human form) appears in an inset.
Bok (from cameo): This is one reason why Nicole Oresme, co-inventor of the Displacer Engine, also invented the Oresme Shield, which can block any unwanted Displacement.
Bok: However, as with cybernetic security, bad actors continue seeking, and sometimes finding, weaknesses in the Shield that can be exploited.
Panel 3
The Martello Siblings at work in a computer lab.
Caption (Bok): So Oresme gathered a team of geniuses who have been continually finding and fixing faults in her shield. This team became the firm, Deslocação Dinámico .
Caption: Oresme herself has long since moved on to other concerns, but her descendants, most notably the Martello siblings Dominic, Guido and Kennerly, continue the never-ending game.
Panel 4
Back to Bok, grinning wryly.
Bok: Those fixes in the shield also sometimes require upgrades to the Displacement Engine.
Bok: Some have complained that this set-up has given Deslocação Dinámico a virtual monopoly on safe interstellar travel technology.
Bok: But there's nothing preventing others from reverse-engineering both the Displacement Engine and shield technology … except that Deslocação Dinámico sells their systems more cheaply than others can develop and market alternatives.
Bok: Clever capitalists are so annoying.
