Dark plans fall like thunderbolts.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1
Li starts relating the story from a cameo inset. Main panel shows a much earlier Bubbleopolis, with only five spheres.
Li: Two hundred fifty years ago – a bit less than half my lifetime – Novo Paolo was a much smaller city, but already thriving as a center of commerce and culture.
Panel 2
Cut back to the control room with Bok and Li.
Li: Turns out that when you set up a contractarian system that safeguards private property and contracts but otherwise leaves people alone, they can accomplish some amazing things.
Bok: You’re preaching to the choir here, Situ. I’m a ‘Venus World’ refugee.
Panel 3
Back to the story, Li speaks from the cameo inset. The main panel shows a silhouetted figure facing a bank of dour-looking people on monitors.
Li: Quite so. Anyway, the city’s success became an embarrassment for rulers of other worlds.
Li: Some considered themselves more ‘civilized;’ others simply saw us as a ripe melon ready to be harvested.
Panel 4
Switch view to show the person silhouetted. A broad-faced, mustachioed man who would look more at home in a 19th-Century (C.E.) boxing ring.
Caption (Li): ‘Even back then, the city was a tough nut to crack.
Li: ‘So, they forged an alliance led by one particularly ambitious rascal, Cornelius Barnhill.
Li: ‘It was Barnhill who would direct and lead the war against Novo Paolo.’
