A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Back on Ganymede, Murphy is speaking with a Beltape woman at Wingspeed Travel Agency (there's a sign on the wall).
Caption: Back on Ganymede:
Travel Agent: I'm sorry, but there's not another transport of any kind from here to the Saturn System scheduled for the next three tendays.
Murphy: What about charter?

Agent: For knocking around the Jove system, and even to Ceres or Mars, sure.
Agent: But Saturn's over 2 billion klicks away now, and falling farther behind relative to us, and any boat with that kind of range would require at least a 2-million augram deposit.
