Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
In the control cabin aboard the station, Nicole and Murphy regard their monitors.
Nicole: We're getting a hail. It's from Antigone.
Murphy: Ignore it.
Nicole: Agreed.
Panel 2
Back on Stone's ship, Stone is looking at her personal screen, as Diamondi looks on and Socrates remains on the wall screen.
Diamondi: Well -?
Stone: No response to our hails.
Socrates: I've plotted their course … It looks like they're going to thread the Colombo gap in the C-Ring.
Panel 3
Stone and Socrates.
Stone: That's rather ballsy. Maybe it is Oresme and Murphy.
Socrates: This will take them on a hyperbolic path around Saturn towards the inner system.
Panel 4
Diamondi interjects.
Diamondi: Yeah, great. Can you stop them?
Socrates: At this distance, we can alter course to intercept them …
Socrates: … After they've made it around Saturn.
Panel 5
With Diamondi glaring intently over her shoulder, Stone shrugs resignedly.
Stone: Very well, plot the course and execute.
Stone: In the meantime, keep trying to hail them.
Stone: Perhaps they'll listen to reason eventually.
Panel 6
The screen now shows a live view of the errant station approaching the Colombo Gap in Saturn's ring, as Stone and Diamondi look on.
Caption: A few hours later:
Stone: They'll reach the gap in two minutes.
Stone: Come on, Nicole, don't screw this up.
Panel 7
The two women react as a bright flash appears within the gap.
Stone: No!!!
Panel 8
View on Stone and Diamondi, both looking aghast.
Stone: They … they didn't make it.
Socrates (OP): Craft destruction … confirmed.
