A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Hugh: Ah yes, the 'teleported bomb' problem you were discussing as we arrived.
Bonehead 1: You said you may have a solution?

Hugh paces as he talks, the others follow him.
Hugh: Well, the possibility of a solution, anyway.
Hugh: Murphy tells me Nicole combined my quantum vibremonic theories with electric-plasma field equations �

Hugh pacing the other way, thinking out loud, as the others still follow him.
Hugh: This brings to mind my � er, � Dr. O'Murchadha's notes while he was developing the 'Miyaki Shield.'
Hugh: Ironically, my � his vibremonic theories grew out of that project as a sort of side-track. He never really thought of combining these forces ...

Hugh stops and lays a hand on Nicole's shoulder. The others almost stumble as they stop with him.
Hugh: Therefore I shall forward all those notes to our newest Mad Scientist, Nicole Oresme.
Hugh: I'm sure she will come up with something brilliant.
Nicole: WHAT? ME?
