A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Diana: Are you serious? Do people here go around shooting each other all the time?
Monty: Quite the contrary. Assaults are rare, murder rarer still.
Monty: No one wants to start a scrap that could get themselves shot or stabbed.
Panel 2
Diana is protesting, while Monty patiently explains.
Diana: That's nuts! What's to stop me from losing my temper and blasting someone?
Monty: I would hope, your sense of self-preservation.
Monty: One person armed in a room full of people is potentially dangerous. But when everyone is armed, they become motivated not to let conflicts turn deadly.

Diana looks dubiously at her hand.
Diana: I guess a 'zringer' is what Alyss wears. But how do I control one?
Monty: You cannot, without an implant.
Monty: However, as with the flyer, there are alternatives available.
