To boldly go where no manic pixie dream girl has gone before.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
Ralf has pulled Eithne away from the counter, where Mezzy and the two captains watch them.
Ralf: Twenty percent? I'm not sure I can get enough shifting this swag for the normal fees.
Eithne: I won't fail. Go on to the marketplace and do your best shifting.
Eithne: And maybe we'll have better than ship's rations for dinner.
Panel 2
Back at the counter, Mezzy confers with the captains.
Ephemeris Captain: Good to see you taking steps, but we still have damage needing repairs.
Mezzy: Go get some estimates and bring 'em back to me.
Mezzy: If they're reasonable … I'll cover your costs.
Panel 3
Satisfied, the captains depart.
Ephemeris Captain: Yer all heart, Mezzy.
Mezzy: Better a hole in my wallet than a hole in my head.
First Captain: Ya also got a way with words.
Panel 4
Eithne is sitting at a console, regarding the monitor and interface. Mezzy is standing behind her, supervising.
Mezzy: This link will lead you to the sensor net, and this menu will take you to the sequential-logic section.
Eithne: Yes yes, so far so good.
Eithne (thought): I wish he'd quit breathing down my neck.
Panel 5
Eithne is looking at her gloved hands.
Eithne (thought): This would go a lot easier if I could touch the console with my bare fingers.
Eithne: But I can't take off these 'fake hands' with him watching me.
Panel 6
Mezzy turns away in response to an angry voice calling him. Eithne sees her moment and takes off one of the gloves.
Angry voice: Mezzy! Ya pea-brained scum-bucket! Why'd ya direct me to an occupied slip?
Mezzy: Keep your pants on, Vinty! What slip was that?
Eithne (thought): Saved by the fail.
