Quantum Vibe

A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Transcript For Strip 2398

Panel 1
Cut to: Li’s starship, approaching a somewhat Terra-like planet, with fairly large polar ice-caps.

William (from ship): The planet … Roussimov?
Li: (from ship) Colonized by some Russian families almost 400 years ago.

Panel 2
In the control cabin, William and Li
Li: The colonists chose a relatively pastoral lifestyle, so the population now is not quite one million persons, clustered into two dozen towns and almost a hundred tiny hamlets.
Panel 3
Li’s ship is entering atmo, leaving contrails
William (from ship): Strange place for our quarry to go to ground.
Li: Maybe not. Most folks here don’t do cortical implants, or any other physical enhancements.
Li: Here especially, she’s super-human.
Panel 4
Li’s ship settles onto a spaceport landing pad. The spaceport looks fairly minimalist.
William (from ship): The space-port looks a bit … primitive.
Li: Not a lot of traffic here. This world is basically self-sufficient, but has little to offer for inter-galactic trade.

Panel 5
At the port-master’s window Li settles fees while the now-suited-up and cloaked William looks around.
William (thoughtsend): How far do we have to go overland?
Li (thoughtsend): Not far – less than 200 klicks. And I have transport arranged.
Panel 6
William and Li are sitting in something that looks like a Soviet-era GAZ-69 (but not exactly)
William: When you said these folks like a ‘pastoral’ lifestyle, you weren’t kidding.
Li: If you’d prefer I could get us a horse-drawn wagon.
William: This is fine.
