A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Buford and Nicole sitting on a sofa in the reception room. Each has a screen out, reading it. (Buford's has a touch-screen interface so she has one finger on a corner of the screen.)
Buford: Dunno why he picked Murphy to go wit' him – I should be in t'ere.
Nicole: I thought we'd discussed this.

Panel 2
Closer 2-shot on Buford and Nicole, still looking at their screens as they talk.
Nicole: Murphy has all the info, with perfect recall. Also, she knows what to ask.
Nicole: She can feed this to Nigel through the earpiece we got for him.

Panel 3
Buford and Nicole. Buford is snarling now.
Nicole: Of course, if you guys had proper implants …
Buford: It's not happening. Get off my back, _elf_.

Nicole gives Buford a pained look. Buford looks contrite.
