Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1
Back to the past. Same kitchen, but now Li's parents are screaming at each other.
Li (caption): 'Anyway, Dad's middle-management job was stressful, and he had an unfortunate tendency to bring his stress home with him.'
Panel 2
Medium close-up of young Li and his younger sister, Li (now about 10) holding her protectively as they watches their parents – we only see their shadows, and that the father is beating on the mother. The focus is on the fear and pain in the childrens' eyes.
Li (caption): 'As the years went by, things escalated.
Li: 'The screaming fights turned into fist-fights, which Dad usually won.'
Panel 3
Now Li's mom is smacking Li as his sister looks on in terror.
Li: 'And then after Mom lost a fight, it was my turn to take a beating.
Li: 'At least she never hit Jasmine, my sister.'
Panel 4
Young Li (now about 13) is standing fearfully outside the door to his parents' bedroom, eavesdropping.
Li: 'And then, in one night, it was all over.
Li: 'First I heard screaming, then banging, and then ...
Li: … silence.'
