Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Panel 1
In the present, Li is telling his life story to Murphy and Nicole. Seamus is looking at something OP.
Li: I waited outside the door to their room for several minutes, and didn't hear anything.
Li: It was the most terrifying silence I'd ever heard.
Panel 2
Young Li in his bed. His father has walked into the room to confront him.
Caption: 'I returned to my room, and several minutes later:'
Li's Dad: Get your clothes on, I'll need your help with this.
Panel 3
Li and his father lugging a 3-meter-long rolled-up carpet. Behind them is a flying car with a back door open.
Caption (Li): 'At first I didn't understand what was going on.'
Caption: 'He had me help him load a rolled-up old carpet into our Skrambler.'
Panel 4
Li and his father in the front seats of the Skrambler. Father has a crazed look in his eye, focused on the flying; Li is looking nervously at his father.
Caption: 'We were almost to the piscolettuce fields when I considered that the carpet was heavier than it should have been, and realized what that meant.'
Panel 5
Aerial view of the Skrambler touching down in the far corner of a dark field.
Caption: 'He didn't say a word until after we landed in the farthest corner of a field that had been recently plowed.'
Panel 6
Li's father hands the boy a shovel.
Caption: 'All my life I lived in fear of my father and had never challenged him.'
Li's father: Take this and start digging.
Panel 7
Li's father is struggling with the rolled-up carpet. Li is coming up behind him with the shovel, poised to strike a blow.
Caption: 'But I considered what my own fate would likely be, after I'd helped him bury mom's body.'
Panel 8
Back to the present. Nicole is doe-eyed with sympathy, Murphy wears her poker face. Li is a bit downcast as he recalls the events.
Nicole: You used a shovel?
Li: It seemed like a good idea at the time.
