A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly 100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.

Li: Turns out I hadn't killed my dad, just severed his spinal cord. A few days in the medi-vat fixed that.
Li: But he was arrested, tried and convicted for murdering my mother.

Fashback scene – Jade looks back sadly as an adult leads her away from young Li in the foreground, who is held by a different adult.
Li: Since we had no family on-world Jade and I went into the colonial foster care system.
Li: Jade was quickly adopted by an executive family who moved back to Luna shortly afterward.
Li: I wouldn't see her again for 25 years.

Back to the present – Murphy is looking impatient, while Nicole looks like she wants to cry.
Murphy: I don't mean to sound insensitive, and I'm sorry you had a rough childhood ...
Murphy: … but I don't see how it relates to my question: How did you meet Seamus?
