Dark plans fall like thunderbolts.
Quantum Vibe
A thousand years in the future, humanity has colonized worlds in nearly
100 galaxies, thanks to Quantum Vibremonic technologies developed five
centuries earlier. Other new technologies have created various
off-shoots of humanity and extended life expectancies five-fold. The
story begins with how a mad scientist and his plucky assistant, along
with their robot friend, brought humanity to the stars, and continues
with the adventures of some unique people in fantastic places.
Kickstarter successful and closed [ May 19, 2026 ]
The Kickstarter campaign for Not-Safe.Space Chapter 3 concluded successfully on April 21, and Scott extended the time allowed for late pledges until May 19.
Books have been ordered from the printer and Scott will be spending the next week or so setting up and sending the PDF files to those who asked for them.
(There are still six of you who have not responded to the survey asking for e-mail and snail-mail addresses, he'll do the best he can.)
Panel 1
A door on the side of the container has been opened, Li is carrying some large parts of machinery as Warren looks on.
Li: What we have here is the tools we will use to build a farm.
Li: Help me bring this stuff out.
Panel 2
Li and Warren are building a machine of some sort, on a frame about 3x3 meters.
Li: Okay, I need a couple of those rods marked, ‘P’
Warren: Got ‘em.
Panel 3
What they’ve assembled looks something like a tank crossed with a harvester.
Li: Now, in this configuration, the Combine will mow the tall grass and collect it into hay bales we’ll need for later.
Panel 4
Li is fiddling with a control panel.
Warren: Why don’t we get some Level 3s to do this work?
Li: To firmly establish ownership, we must mix our labor with the land.
Panel 5
The Combine trundles off across the field, mowing the grass and collecting it.
Warren: Pretty cool. Mixing our labor with the land isn’t so hard.
Li: This is just the beginning, son. There’s lots more to do before sundown.
Panel 6
Warren looks skyward, shielding his eyes from the sunglare,
Warren: Sundown. Yeah, I hear they have those here.
Li: You’ll have to get used to the natural rhythms here. Sunrise, sundown, rainstorms, meteor showers, volcanic eruptions …
Warren: You … you’re joking, right?
